After more than a decade on the superior court bench, Judge Barwick is retiring as a full-time judge.
It’s a bittersweet time for everyone at Fulton County Superior Court as we say goodbye to our beloved colleague, the Honorable Jane C. Barwick. After more than a decade on the superior court bench, Judge Barwick is retiring as a full-time judge. She’s trading the hustle and bustle of packed court calendars for play dates with her two dogs, Watson and Gracie, trips to Athens to root for her beloved Georgia Bulldogs, and more family time.
Before Judge Barwick got out of Dodge, fellow judges, court staff, and friends surprised her with a farewell send off. Judge Kelly Lee Ellerbee organized the retirement party disguised as a last-minute adoption hearing. But when Judge Barwick entered Courtroom 8A for the last time, the pomp and circumstance, complete with applause and a congratulatory cake, gave way to the true reason for this occasion.
“It’s been an honor to be your colleague,” said Chief Judge Ural Glanville. You have well served the citizens of Fulton County. I’m going to miss you. We’re all going to miss you.”
“Judge Barwick embodies what it means to be a public servant. She cares greatly for people, and it shows in everything she does. I’ll miss you dearly,” said Judge Ellerbee.
Judge Barwick capped off the celebration with an emotional goodbye and these final words: “This is like home and I’m going to miss you all so much. Please take care of yourselves. I love you.”
